Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (CalPOST) have united in their mutual interest to promote the "SAFE Driving Campaign" during CY2012.
The SAFE (Situation-Appropriate, Focused, and Educated) Driving Campaign was established to reduce the number of law enforcement officers (LEOs) killed and injured in traffic collisions. Research investigating causes and interventions related to LEO traffic collisions is a significant component of the campaign. The overall goal is to reduce fatal LEO collisions to a rate comparable with the general driving public. The primary benchmark, however, is to reduce fatal LEO collisions by 15% by 2015.
The SAFE Driving Campaign was started by CalPOST in 2009, and it is one of the most worthwhile efforts for law enforcement officers to engage in, especially considering that driving has been the highest cause of law enforcement deaths in the United States over the past 13 years.
We trust Idaho's peace officers will join with POST in advocating "SAFE" driving behaviors throughout CY2012.
